The shortlist for the 2020 Times Higher Education Awards Asia, which has twice the number of categories this year, has been announced.
More than 60 universities have made the shortlist, after more than 150 institutions from almost 30 territories submitted entries.
The THE Awards Asia launched last year to celebrate the achievements of universities across the continent, building on the success of THE’s long-running UK-focused awards, dubbed the “Oscars of higher education”.
This year’s event will honour institutions across 10 categories, up from five last year.
Universities have once again been nominated for: Outstanding Leadership and Management Team; International Strategy of the Year; Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year; Outstanding Support for Students; and Technological Innovation of the Year.
The five new categories are: Excellence and Innovation in the Arts; Student Recruitment Campaign of the Year; Workplace of the Year; and two based on data submitted by Asian institutions for THE’s rankings: Regional or Societal Impact Award, and THE DataPoints Merit Award.
Leading the way with three nominations each are Taiwan’s National Dong Hwa University, India’s O.P. Jindal Global University, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), mainland China’s Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz University.
This year’s virtual awards ceremony will be held in November.
