The shortlist for the Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2023 has been announced, with judges considering a record number of entries this year – nearly 700 submissions from 16 countries and territories.

This tally is despite the fact that 14 countries or territories previously eligible for THE Awards Asia are now only eligible for THE Awards MENA, which opened for entries on 16 March.

Shortlisted entries represent the top contenders in 10 categories covering a wide range of university activities.

India was the best represented country on the shortlist, with 13 entries. It was followed by Hong Kong, with 10 entries, then Thailand, with eight.

Fifteen institutions were shortlisted twice: the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Government College University Lahore; Hiroshima University; Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi; Izmir Institute of Technology; Kadir Has University; Lingnan University Hong Kong; Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Naresuan University; O.P. Jindal Global University; Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences; Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech); Taylor’s University; Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST); and Universiti Utara Malaysia.

The winners of the fifth annual THE Awards Asia will be announced on 21 June at a ceremony that will close the first evening of THE’s Asia Universities Summit in Hong Kong.
