Letter: Eggheads versus battery hens (2)

二月 2, 2001

A worrying trend towards what I perceive to be "educational Taylorism" prevails in universities. Many students feel like battery hens - force-fed information solely to produce a perfect exam answer. But there are ways in which this problem can be diminished.

Here at St Andrews there is support for academic societies where students and their tutors can discuss and debate in an intellectual environment.

Lecturers can also help combat anti-intellectualism by ensuring handouts do not only list facts but pose questions and include further reading.
