About the opportunity

As a Contracts Specialist (Clinical Trials) you will negotiate and execute non-standard contracts relating to clinical trial activities, and supervise and support a team of Contracts Officers, assisting them with complex issues and escalations. Utilising your strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, you will collaborate closely with researchers across the University and make a meaningful contribution to research excellence across the University.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	report into the Clinical Trials Contracts Manager and lead a small team of Contracts Officers
	manage the end-to-end process of negotiating and executing complex clinical trial contracts
	act as an escalation point for the Clinical Trials Contracts Officers on complex issues
	consult with the Office of General Counsel regarding legal issues relating to non-standard contractual arrangements
	liaise with researchers to provide them with high-level strategic guidance on the establishment of clinical trials
	apply legal advice to non-standard contracts to mitigate risk and comply with relevant legislation while facilitating the University's research objectives
	evaluate and review team processes, leading continuous improvement initiatives


About you


	experience in reviewing and executing legal contracts is essential
	a clinical trials background and an interest in science, medical and/or health research is desirable
	strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise workload in a busy environment with strict deadlines
	excellent verbal and written communication skills
	proven team leadership and coaching experience.

About the role

We have begun work on a Strategic Major Project (SMP) called Advancing Assessment that aims to develop assessment practice and technology across the university. The project will look at every aspect of assessment over the next 4 years, building on existing practice. Through co-design we aim to engage staff and students in developing robust, valid and exciting assessment.

We are looking for an experienced educator with expertise in STEM-based assessment practice including experience of robust online assessment strategies to join our assessment consultancy team in the University’s Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP).

This is an exciting opportunity to use your knowledge and expertise of  STEM and quantitative based assessment practice to enhance provision and academic professional development for staff. The role will contribute to the adoption of new approaches and digital assessment practices including Generative AI.

The Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP) provides support for academic staff at the University of Southampton. The Centre is located with Southampton’s Faculty of Social Sciences but serves the whole University, providing comprehensive world-leading professional development for staff and doctoral researchers at all stages of their career development. The School of Graduate Studies (GS) is established for strengthening the central support for postgraduate programmes as well as the monitoring of their quality in alignment with the University’s strategic direction of expanding and providing quality postgraduate education. The GS is expanding its scope of research and knowledge transfer programmes in promoting multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research and development projects related to Policy Studies and Management, Health Studies, International Higher Education, Policy and Management and Urban and Housing Studies. The GS is searching for staff who can support research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities in the following areas:

Education Management
Internationalisation and Quality Management in Higher Education
International Higher Education
Public Management and Administration
Public and Social Policy
Research Methods

The appointees will be mainly responsible for (a) engaging in teaching and learning activities; (b) supporting academic programme coordination and management; (c) organizing research events (e.g., conferences and seminars) and knowledge transfer activities; and (d) contributing to other administrative matters as assigned by the supervisors.

General Requirements

1. Associate Professor of Teaching
Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree in the related discipline; (ii) at least five years of relevant experience in teaching; and (iii) track record in academic programme development and/or management.

2. Assistant Professor of Teaching
Applicants should have (i) relevant postgraduate qualifications in the related discipline; and (ii) substantial relevant work experience in programme co-ordination and teaching, preferably at postgraduate level.

3. Senior Lecturer
Applicants should have (i) relevant postgraduate qualifications in the related discipline; (ii) substantial relevant experience (normally not less than 8 years), and (iii) experience in course development.

For all of the above posts, applicants should have strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and presentation skills. Preference will be given to candidates with strong track records in teaching and programme management in the above-mentioned areas. Evidence of contributions to the scholarship of teaching, in the form of teaching-related grants, publications and conference presentations, will be viewed positively. The appointees are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and services to the GS and the University community.

Appointment

The conditions of appointments will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. For the post of Associate Professor of Teaching or Assistant Professor of Teaching, appointments will normally be made on a fixed-term contract of up to three years. Job Purpose

The Head of the Business is an important appointment for the University of Southampton Delhi. The role holder will be responsible for ensuring that the academic activity within Business delivers the University’s ‘Triple Helix’ Strategy, ensuring excellence in education, research and knowledge exchange and enterprise.

The role holder will provide high-level academic leadership in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate education, ensuring that the quality of education delivered is equivalent to that offered in the UK. In collaboration with the Southampton Business School, they will be responsible for recruiting and establishing the very best cohort of staff to deliver degree programmes at University of Southampton Delhi. They will lead the subject area’s academic plan and vision and ensure a high-quality student experience. They will also personally contribute to the delivery of education, modelling high standards of educational delivery.

They will, once the educational activity is embedded and successful, lead research activities in line with the campus’s research plans, ensuring strategically relevant and high-quality research activity. In doing so, they will ensure that we sustain our international reputation for research by publishing peer-reviewed research in high-quality conferences and journals. They will plan and develop research independently, in collaboration with colleagues in Delhi, UK, and Malaysia, and promote and support research led by colleagues at University of Southampton Delhi.

They will be a key member of the campus’s leadership team and undertake relevant leadership, management, and engagement activities, ensuring a culture of belonging, inclusion, diversity and equity in the subject area. They will embed collegiality and demonstrate this through ensuring the ‘Southampton Behaviors’ are modelled and will work with colleagues to embed them as a way of working within the campus.

Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Science [Chemistry - Thermal and Mechanical Characterization of Materials] - Dr. Panče Nuamov

Description

The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi are inviting applications for a fully funded Post-Doctoral Associate position in the areas of thermal and mechanical characterization of materials.

The candidate will work as a post-doctoral associate or a researcher in the Smart Materials Lab (Naumov research group). The role will involve preparing, characterizing and testing new smart materials, at the intersection of materials science, chemistry, and engineering. A strong background in thermal or mechanical characterization of surface and bulk properties of solids from either science (solid-state physics) or engineering (mechanical) is a requirement. The specific research projects will focus on both experimental and modeling aspects of the effects of temperature on mechanical properties, such as ability for elastic or plastic deformation. The candidate will conduct experiments related to assigned research projects, process the data, and prepare results for presentation in articles and conferences. Additionally, the candidate will submit biweekly reports on their research and participate in group seminars. Training students, such as capstone students or interns, and other researchers on techniques within their research domain is also part of the role. The candidate will collaborate with the staff of the Core Technology Platforms to receive training on available analytical techniques.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering, solid-state physics or chemistry, or materials solid-state chemistry. Candidates with experimental skills and/or modelling experience with characterization of thermal and mechanical properties, and with a strong publication record in engineering or science will be given a priority.
