Mike Thomas, currently pro vice-chancellor (academic) at the University of Chester, will join the University of Central Lancashire on 1 September as deputy vice-chancellor (academic).
Alex Halliday has been elected to the position of physical secretary and vice-president of the Royal Society. Professor Halliday will take up his position in December.
The University of Westminster has appointed Alexandra Hughes as pro vice-chancellor for global engagement.
The University of Oxford has made four new appointments. Jan Joosten, professor of Old Testament exegesis at the University of Strasbourg, has been appointed professor of Hebrew in the department of Oriental studies. He will also become Regius professor of Hebrew on 1 October. Fiona Powrie has been appointed to the professorship of musculoskeletal sciences in the Nuffield department of orthopaedics, rheumatology and musculoskeletal sciences. Kia Nobre has taken up the professorship of translational cognitive neuroscience. Finally, Jefferson McMahan, professor of philosophy at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, will become White’s professor of moral philosophy from 1 October.
