关于 Wilfrid Laurier University
Wilfrid Laurier University is a public university in Ontario, Canada. Its roots trace back to 100 years ago, however it gained its name as the Wilfred Laurier University in 1973.
The university was named after Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Canada’s seventh Prime Minister, who was known for his conciliation skills and promotion of individual liberty. The university has campuses in Brantford, Kitchener, Milton, Toronto and Waterloo.
There are 270 clubs for students to be a part of, over 3,000 volunteering opportunities, as well as the chance to study abroad on one of their exchange programs. The university has produced 19 football players that have been drafted to the Canadian Football League in the last decade.
Although the university places a heavy focus on developing students skills outside of the classroom, there is an equally-heavy focus on education and employment prospects. Both undergraduate and post-graduate courses are offered across the 10 different faculties, from arts to education to science.
The university has partnerships with over 900 employers who recruit students every year. The university also holds over 800 events at the career centre every year to allow students to explore every opportunity and help them to form decisions after university.
Notable alumni include former executive officer for the Bank of Montreal William A. Downe, CEO and founder of the Investors Exchange (IEX), Bradley Katsuyama, and two-time ice hockey Olympic gold medalist, Cheryl Pounder.
The campus has a variety of resources accessible to students, such as the creativity hub, light board studio, city studio, purpose lab and the Laurier Library.
