University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) is a public university established in 1894, and based in the central Portage County region of the state.

There is a wide range of academic study available at UWSP, which offers more than 120 undergraduate programs in 48 majors and 78 minors. Academics is divided between four colleges; Fine Arts & Communication, Letters & Science, Natural Resources, and Professional Studies. In the graduate school UWSP offers eight master’s programmes and doctorates in Audiology and Educational Sustainability.

The college of Natural Resources has a wide range of facilities available to students. The UWSP affiliate campus contains 1,400 acres of forest and wetlands, allowing students to gain experience in fields such as forestry, wildlife management, and water resources. Seventeen miles east of Stevens Point on the picturesque Sunset Lake is the 200-acre teaching and learning centre Home Central Wisconsin Environmental Station, and there is also a Aquaculture Demonstration Facility in the city of Bayfield.

The Department of Theatre and Dance offers a wide range of majors and graduate courses for students, and theatrical performances are held at Jenkins Theatre, a 372 seat traditional proscenium stage with a hydraulically operated orchestra pit.

Athletics teams at UWSP are known as the Pointers after the breed of gun dog, and compete in the NCAA Division III. There are a total of eight men’s sports teams and ten women’s, including volleyball, tennis, and soccer. American football games are played at Goerke Field.

Student radio station WWSP-FM broadcasts every day of the year and is known for its annual Trivia event, the single largest trivia contest in the world involving over 12,000 contestants in more than 400 teams.

Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger, Secretary of Defence Melvin Laird, economist John List, and Broadway actress Laura Osnes all attended UWSP.
