The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is a public research university located in the United States. It was found in 1891 after a prolonged campaign for women's education led by Charles Duncan McIver.
Over the years the university has changed its name numerous times, and was known as the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina from 1932 to 1963. The university’s motto is "service".
Being the largest public university in North Carolina, UNCG offers more than 100 degree programs through nine academic units: a graduate school; college of arts and sciences, the Lloyd International Honors College; joint school of nanoscience and nanoengineering; the Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics; a School of Education; a School of Health and Human Sciences; a School of Music, Theatre and Dance; and School of Nursing.
The most popular courses attended at UNCG include psychology, nursing, and business administration and management.
The campus, which is based on 0.85 km2, offers students 30 halls of residence and 24 academic facilities. Students are said to contribute a billion dollars to the local economy annually.
Some 17 sports are available on campus, which also has its own university radio station.
The university's list of illustrious alumni includes Pulizer Prize winner Claudia Emerson, gymnast Jackson Tyson and Broadway actress Beth Leavel.
