Founded during the reign of Krishnaraja Woodeyar IV (the Maharaja of Mysore) in 1916, the University of Mysore is a public state university based in Mysore, Karnataka in India.
It was the first university set up outside of the British administration in India, the sixth in India and the first in Karnataka. Comprising 122 affiliated colleges and five constituent colleges, there are approximately 53,000 students studying at the university.

Students can study at one of 37 postgraduate departments, spanning five faculties: the faculty of arts, the faculty of science and technology, the faculty of commerce, the faculty of education and the faculty of law.
Facilities include an amphitheatre, auditorium, swimming pool and a library, which holds over 800,000 books and 100,000 journal volumes.
Located in the foothills of the Chamundi Hills, Mysore is 146km from the Karnataka state capital of Bangalore. It is spread across a 128.42km² area, with a population of about 890,000.
