关于 SUNY Oneonta
The State University of New York College at Oneonta, normally referred to as SUNY Oneonta, is a liberal arts college located in one of the most rural parts of the state.
SUNY Oneonta is a public university which was founded as the Oneonta Normal School in 1889, and later known as the State University College of Education. It is widely considered one of the top colleges in the American North and one of the best value institutions in the state.
Nearby Oneonta is a small Victorian city with impressive views of the Catskill Mountains. It lies 75 miles west of state capital Albany, 90 miles south east of Syracuse and 165 miles north west of New York City.
A highly selective institution, SUNY Oneonta admits fewer than half of its applicants. More than half of its students live in one of its 15 halls of residence. There are over 125 student organisations in total, and more than 20 sports teams, which have won over 11 titles between them.
In addition to its 250-acre campus, students have access to adjacent College Camp, a larger site which used to be a working farm and now houses the College Observatory and its optical telescope, one of the biggest in the North East. Its postgraduate history museum studies students are taught in the university’s Cooperstown Campus, around 20 miles north of the main site.
SUNY Oneonta is the alma mater of Bill Pullman, the actor who has appeared in films like Independence Day, Spaceballs, Lost Highway and A League of Their Own and television shows like Torchwood: Miracle Day and Cagney & Lacey.
