关于 St Ambrose University
Saint Ambrose University was founded in 1882 in the city of Davenport, Iowa, USA. The university was founded by the first bishop of Davenport, The Most Reverend John McMullen. Early classes were taught at the St. Marguerite’s School building and in 1885 the school moved to its own campus where Ambrose Hall was built. In 1908 the name was changed to St. Ambrose College to reflect its higher education role. The college merged with Immaculate Conception academy in 1958 and continued to grow. St. Ambrose became fully coeducational in 1968 and in 1977 the first graduate programs were offered. In 1987 the college split its academic programs into schools and renamed itself St. Ambrose University. The college began offering a doctoral degree in Business Administration in 1997.
Today St. Ambrose is a private, coeducational liberal arts university which retains strong ties to the Catholic Church and is home to just over three-and-a-half thousand students engaged in a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs. The university prides itself on the strong liberal arts grounding which it provides to students. There are currently around 60 undergraduate majors, 13 master’s and three doctoral programs on offer. Programs of study are split into 11 categories ranging from Arts and Artistic Expression to Computer Science and Maths to Social and Political Studies.
The university campus features its own arena and bookstore as well as the Galvin Fine Arts Centre. The campus is home to all the university’s major academic and residential buildings as well as offices housing the administrative staff. Buildings on the campus are centred around Christ the King Chapel. There is also a Student Wellness and Recreation Centre and sports and leisure facilities.
