关于 Osmania University
Osmania University is one of the oldest universities in southern India and among the leading universities in the country. It was named for its founder, Nawab Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam (monarch) of Hyderabad and a patron of education.
At the time of its founding in 1918, the region of Hyderabad was part of British India. It was decided that the region needed a university which instructed in Urdu, the native majority language, as well as English.
The university has 12 faculties and 53 departments. 25 undergraduate courses, 75 Master’s and 27 PhDs are available at Osmania.
The university’s faculties are: Arts, Business Management, Commerce, Education, Engineering, Informatics, Law, Oriental Languages, Pharmacy, Science, Social Sciences and Technology. The most recent addition is the Faculty of Pharmacy, established in 2010.
About 70 acres of the university campus are covered by gardens and 1000 acres have been planted with trees. The university also has its own deer park with over 200 deer.
Osmania University is located in the modern region of Telangana, in the city of Hyderabad. The city is a meeting of the north and south: you can find cosmopolitan shopping malls and business districts (including Microsoft and Google’s India headquarters), and a short distance away visit the old town with its ancient mosques. Similarly, modern and conservative values mesh together within the city.
Food is a central part of social and private life in India, and Hyderabad is particularly renowned for its cuisine. Hyderabad biryani, an aromatic mixture of rice, vegetables and meat, is a favourite among locals.
