关于 Maryville College
Maryville College is a private liberal arts institution in Tennessee linked to the Presbyterian Church.
Founded by Rev. Isaac Anderson in 1819, Maryville is among the 50 oldest colleges in the country. Anderson gives his name to the institution’s oldest building. Classes continue to be taught in Anderson Hall, built in 1870, to this day.
A selective institution, Maryville admits around two-thirds of its applicants. There are more than 60 programmes on offer. Popular courses include business administration, accounting & finance, and psychology. In 2010, Maryville opened a new arts centre which provides valuable space for fine and performing arts programmes as well as theatre and music facilities.
The small city of Maryville is in the far east of the state, 30 miles from North Carolina. Though Memphis, Tennessee’s largest city, is 400 miles away, Knoxville is just 15 miles north of the university, which is 100 miles from Chattanooga, and 185 from Nashville, the state’s capital and second largest city. More than two-thirds of students have cars on campus. Nearby McGhee Tyson Airport operates flights to more than 20 destinations across the US. Its 263-acre campus enjoys views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Dorothy Andrews Elston Kabis, treasurer of the United States during the Nixon Administration, and Wiley Blount Rutledge, justice of the Supreme Court from 1943 to 1949, are both Maryville alumni.
