Juniata College

Juniata College was established in 1876 and was the first college started by members of the Church of the Brethren, a religious denomination who hold the New Testament as their only creed.

Located in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, this private liberal arts college is today home to more than 1,600 students, many of whom live in one of the 21 residence halls that are spread across the 110-acre main campus.

In addition to this, there is also a 365-acre nature preserve, known as the Henry Baker Nature Preserve, and the 365-acre Environmental Studies Field Station.

Juniata has a strong history of campus traditions and throughout the academic year there are a number of interesting and diverse events that bring the student population together.

Lobsterfest, held in the first week of the fall semester, is a picnic where students are invited to eat whole Maine lobsters and listen to live music.

At the end of the semester is Madrigal Dinner, a tradition established in 1970, which consists of an outstanding meal followed by Christmas carols. The university’s oldest tradition is Mountain Day, and on a nice day in the first semester classes are cancelled and students go to one of the state parks for a day of activities and outdoor fun.

The various other traditions include the Mr Juniata Pageant, Storming the Arch and the May Day Breakfast, all of which help to bring the Juniata College community together.

The college offers a diverse range of study areas and there are study abroad opportunities available in more than 21 countries around the world.
