关于 Catawba College
Founded in 1851, Catawba College is a liberal arts college in Salisbury, North Carolina. The college is named for the Native American tribe that are local to the North Carolina region where the university originally hailed from, before moving in 1925.
There are four main schools at Catawba; Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, and Performing Arts. There is also a dedicated depart that caters to both graduate studies and evening courses for mature or working students. Students will often also be looking for internship positions in areas of employment they may wish to pursue in a later career, and in previous years staff at Catawba have worked with students in ensuring placements in companies such as American Red Cross, Kraft Foods, and Pfizer.
Catawba offers international study programmes for its students, lasting up to a semester. These can be either short trips where students will continue to be taught by faculty members, or full overseas study with credits counting towards the degree undertaken at Catawba. In previous years there have been excursions to Wales, Germany, South Africa, and Costa Rica.
Known as the Catawba Indians, there are eighteen NCAA Division II sports teams at the college, competing in sports such as baseball, softball, American football and soccer. There are also two co-ed teams, cheerleading and dance. The men’s football team is known for having won both the inaugural and second Tangerine Bowl tournaments in 1947 and 1948.
Some notable graduates of Catawba are governor of North Carolina Pat McCrory, actress Jasika Nicole, basketball coach Dave Robbins, and mixed martial artist Tara LaRosa.
Catawba regularly hosts prestigious guest speakers, for instance in 2016 inviting activist Erin Brockovich and artist Dianna Cohen to speak on issues in the environment.
