Paul Magrs argued that creative writing modules should be taught to students in all departments

My experience of teaching creative writing to adults in university continuing education departments, the community and in prisons leads me to agree strongly that all students should be offered creative writing modules. Unfortunately, not even all English literature students are offered this as yet.

In fact, due to changes in how the Quality Assurance Agency assesses continuing education departments, part-time and non-traditional continuing education students may in future be denied creative writing courses.

Paul Magrs is obviously an expert on jargon-free and bias-free phrasing ("my students come from all sorts of backgrounds; I have worked with scientists, businessmen, housewives"). What he does not explain is why anyone should attend one of his creative writing courses to learn to write better English.
