Last week in The THES... Jennie Bristow asked if university was the right place to educate gifted children.
A university is an adult environment and it should provide an education fit for adults. On the other hand, one does not have to reach the age of 18 to have the intellectual capacity of an adult.
A child who can read before starting school and who enters the reception class
at primary school should be moved up to the next class, instead of being bored in class while the other children are learning to read.
The ability of children at primary school should be monitored carefully so that able children can start their secondary education before the normal entry age.
As such children are socialising with older children while still at school, any young teenager who enters university should not find it a problem to socialise with adults.
