Modem world

九月 15, 2000

While many people may be unthinkingly applying new technology to learning, this does not apply to all ("Beware geeks bearing modems", THES September 1).

Many organisations with which I am working are engaged in research and evaluation to understand better how to integrate new methods with long-established ones. My own institution has evidence on the relative value of various approaches to learning, including technology, problem-oriented learning and so on. In any event, where is the evidence that the traditional lecture is an effective method?

Academics should engage with changes, not close their minds to them.
