Letter: Clash of ideas 2

十一月 23, 2001

Where is Islam's contribution to social science (Letters, THES , November 16)? Science demands testing theories by evidence and rational principles. The myth of the Koran as the direct word of God runs counter to this. Its revelation view of a God's mind or reality being known as if via a phone has no way of telling truth from delusion and error. It is dogmatic and absolutist, and no science, natural or social, nor developing ethics, is possible with such an epistemology.

The Koran, like the Bible, is rather a human construction with the limitations of its times - not just in knowledge, but in prejudices and ignorance.
