THE Awards 2014 winners

The 2014 awards is packed with examples of the most talented, dedicated and creative individuals and teams, whose work has helped their institutions thrive at a time of seemingly constant change in the academy. Our universities and colleges are among the nation’s most respected institutions, both domestically and internationally, and it is our great privilege to have played a part in celebrating their achievements over the past decade.

THE Awards 2013 winners

From hundreds of submissions, and the dozens that made the shortlists, our judges have selected 18 universities, individuals and teams as the best of the best. The quality that has shone through in every category is yet another reminder that higher education is a sector in which the UK truly excels. All who work in it should be proud.

THE Awards 2012 winners

The Times Higher Education Awards 2012 are full of examples of the best of the best: the institutions, teams and individuals who have led the way at a time when leadership has been more essential than ever. Anyone looking for evidence of the pioneering spirit, adaptability and sheer quality of our higher education sector need look no further.

THE Awards 2011 winners

The Times Higher Education Awards 2011 see the university’s three core missions of research, teaching and engagement represented in an array of innovation and inspiration. Among the research achievements that captured the imagination of our judges are a wristwatch blood-pressure monitor, a light-based decontaminant that destroys hospital superbugs, and software that is able to help traffic flow more smoothly and increase the safety of jet engines.

THE Awards 2010 winners

What do a rubbish-collecting recommissioned milk float, “magnetricity” and the bombardier beetle have in common? They have all played a part in helping academics and their universities triumph in the Times Higher Education Awards 2010. If proof were ever needed of the imagination, innovation and sheer diversity of UK higher education’s output, it’s here.

THE Awards 2009 winners

Once again, the amazing display of talent in UK higher education astounded us, from the lecturer who developed a “Haptic Cow” to teach veterinary students, through to the project helping students with disabilities enter the job market, the fashion school for young South Africans affected by the HIV virus and the research team working to restore the Cutty Sark.

THE Awards 2008 winners

Choosing the 18 winners from the shortlisted entries has been extremely difficult and they can rightly be proud of their success: each represents excellence in their field and we congratulate them all. We would like to thank all our sponsors, the Judges and everyone involved in making the Times Higher Education Awards 2008 a fitting tribute to the very best of UK academe.

THE Awards 2007 winners

Judging the entries for the third annual Times Higher Education Awards proved even more difficult this year than last. Not only did the judges have to contend with many excellent entries, they also had a much larger number of them. More than 90 per cent of UK universities entered in one category or more – a truly impressive response.
