Letter: Reward excellence 3

I am struck by the low number of research submissions, relative to other university subjects, for area studies of regions such as the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Given their importance in contemporary world affairs, there is surely a case for some expansion and national initiatives in these fields.
