Presbyterian University, Ghana was established by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in 1998, after it established the first primary school in the country in 1843 and went on to manage hundreds of schools and colleges in between.
It was created as a result of high demand for student admission in Ghanaian universities.
There are six faculties including: science and technology, business, development studies, health and medical sciences, education, and law, as well as a graduate school. Two and three-year diploma and HND programmes are also offered at the university in the areas of ICT, public relations, administration, and business administration. The qualifications gained from these courses can be used to pursue further education.
In addition to its wide undergraduate offering, there are six postgraduate master’s programmes on offer in: educational studies, international development, environmental health and sanitation, natural resources management, financial risk management, and public health.
Ther are five campuses all completely unique in environment and history: Okwahu, Asante Akyem, Akuapem, Tema, and Kumasi. The main campus, Okwahu, is located in the town of Abetifi. The Asante Akyem campus is set in a built-up area surrounded by mountain ranges and hosts the faculty of health and medical sciences. The Akuapem campus is located in a historic town, Tema is a city campus located within Ghana’s hub of international trade, and the Kumasi campus is set within one of Africa’s oldest yet commercial and metropolitan cities, Kumasi.
