Kabul Polytechnic University

Kabul Polytechnic University is a university of technical and engineering sciences in Afghanistan. It was established in 1963 as Kabul Polytechnic Institute. In 2002 it was granted university status and became Kabul Polytechnic University. The university’s mission is to provide high standards of academic excellence and research innovation.

The university is located in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. The city is the political and economic centre of the country. It is also Afghanistan’s only city with a population of more than one million. Kabul is one of the highest capitals in the world, situated high up between the Hindu Kush Mountains.

The university is organised into eight undergraduate faculties: construction, geology and mines; electromechanics; computer science; chemical technology; geomatic and cadaster; transportation engineering and water resource and environmental engineering. There are also three departments offering masters degree programmes: civil and industrial engineering; geology and hydrology and water resource and environmental engineering.

In 2005 the Kabul Polytechnic University IT Centre was built. The centre is spread across 780 hectares and two floors. It is fully equipped with a library, a conference hall, two lecture rooms, two seminar rooms, and two computer labs with 30 workstations.

The Academic Research Centre was set up to facilitate multi-disciplinary research across the university. The centre’s community of researchers collaborate with external engineers and scientists specialising in natural, environmental, social and computer science. They collect and analyse data to provide solutions to real world scientific problems.
