关于 Oles Honchar Dnipro National University
Oles Honchar Dnipro National University was founded in 1918 as Ekaterynoslavasky University. In 1933 it became Dnipropetrovsk State University and in 2000 the university was granted national status. In 2018 the university was renamed Oles Honchar Dnipro National University.
The university is named in honour of Oles Terentiovych Honchar. Honchar was a famous Ukrainian and Soviet writer, scientist and public figure. He also served in World War II and for a period of time was a member of the Ukrainian parliament.
When the university first opened there were only four faculties: history and linguistics, law, medicine, and physics and mathematics. Since then the university has expanded and now consists of 20 faculties, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The student body is comprised of roughly 3,000 international students, representing more than 20 countries between them. The university has developed partnerships with leading higher education institutions around the world to facilitate academic and scientific exchanges. It also has strong connections with Yuzhnoye Design Bureau, one of the world’s largest rocket space centres.
Scientific research is carried out at the university’s facilities throughout the year. The university publishes over 200 monographs and almost 2,000 scientific manuals annually. About 5,000 students also participate in research projects, producing more than 600 articles every year between them.
The university is located in Dnipro, a city in central Ukraine. With a population of about one million, Dnipro is the country’s fourth largest city. Up until 2016 the city was called Dnipropetrovsk. Dnipro was an important industrial centre of Soviet Ukraine and today it is the country’s business and political capital.
