关于 University of New Brunswick UNB
The University of New Brunswick (UNB) was founded in 1785 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, making it the oldest English language university in Canada, and among one of the oldest public universities in North America.
It was established by seven Loyalists who left the US after the American Revolution and is situated on the traditional territory of the Wolastoqey people, with the Wolastoq river flowing beside the university. UNB's motto is Sapere Aude, which means "dare to be wise".
In 1964, a smaller campus was opened in Saint John. It houses three faculties and offers one of Canada’s only marine biology programs.
There are now two satellite health sciences campuses in Moncton and Bathurst in New Brunswick, with two outposts in the Caribbean and Beijing. UNB offers the study of over 75 degrees across 14 faculties and 60 disciplines at both undergraduate and graduate levels. It employs over 3,000 full and part-time staff, which includes faculty and support staff. Many professors are leaders in their fields, whether it’s developing technologies used by Google and NASA, pioneering plant-based medicine research or leading Canada’s Institute of Cybersecurity.
In 2010, UNB partnered with Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia to open the province’s first English-language medical school at the Saint John campus.
Fredericton has fewer than 60,000 residents and has a thriving local music scene, with events such as the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival and the Shivering Songs Festival a highlight of the events calendar. Known as Freddy Beach, the town is home to a flourishing craft beer industry with many microbreweries to visit. Saint John is known for its historical architecture, local farmer’s markets, walking trails and lakes.
