关于 Lewis & Clark College
Lewis & Clark College is a liberal arts institution named for the famous expedition which traversed through what is today the state of Oregon, where the college is based. Founded in 1867, the college has been in the city of Portland since 1938.
As well as a College of Arts and Sciences, L&C contains a Law School and Graduate School of Education and Counselling. In total L&C bestows 29 majors and 27 minors, as well as offering preparatory courses in engineering, medicine, law, business, entrepreneurship and teaching.
Over 70% of students live on campus, and there are many student organisations and social events to keep students entertained. The Salsa Fiesta was started by a student in 1999 and has become a favourite society of performances and lessons. The Luau party takes place every spring as a celebration of Hawaiian music and culture.
In honour of Lewis and Clark’s achievements, university sports teams are known as the Pioneers. There are nine men’s teams including baseball and American football, and ten women’s teams including soccer and softball. A popular physical activity among a subset of students is Boffing, which involves combat with foam weapons, played on an area of The Glade known as ‘the grassy knoll’.
Alumni of Lewis & Clark include Olympic champion swimmer Matt Biondi, Pulitzer winning cartoonist Matt Wuerker, Oregon governor Kate Brown, and Alaska governor Bill Walker.
L&C also provides a regular shuttle service between campus and downtown Portland. The city itself can be a haven for students, with a thriving music scene and cultural attractions such as the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
