关于 Monroe College
Monroe College was founded in 1933 as the Monroe School of Business, an all-women’s school which broke new ground in teaching female students work skills. The founder, Mildred King, set the school up in the Bronx, New York City. The first classes took place at the site of the former Starlight Ballroom.
Monroe School of Business was renamed Monroe Business Institute, and then became Monroe College in 1990. Today it is a coeducational private college and has expanded from its site in the Bronx to campuses in New Rochelle and the Caribbean island of St Lucia.
Undergraduate courses at Monroe are offered in seven fields: Allied Health, Business and Accounting, Criminal Justice, Education, Hospitality and Culinary, Information Technology and Nursing. The college also offers master’s degrees in accounting, computer science, business administration, public health, hospitality management and criminal justice.
The Bronx campus has several unique training facilities, including the School of Nursing’s Human Patient Simulation Center. A moot court and a simulated pharmacy are also available to law and health students.
Monroe College places high value on work experience. Students can have the chance to put their skills into practice through partnerships with local business, or at the college itself. For example, culinary students are responsible for running one of Monroe’s cafeterias.
Students can opt for the bustling, urban Bronx or the quiet, suburban New Rochelle. Both campuses have their own facilities, recreation centres and clubs.
Athletics teams at Monroe are known as Mustangs. Both men’s and women’s soccer, track and field and cross country teams compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, along with men’s basketball and football.
