关于 Marymount Manhattan College
Marymount Manhattan College is a private liberal arts college in New York City which has produced an array of television and Broadway stars. It is based in the east side of Manhattan, one of NYC’s five boroughs.
Established as a two-year women’s institution in 1936, MMC moved to its current location 12 years later, becoming a four-year college in the process. Its current name was first used in 1961, the year it obtained independent status.
Although it was established as a Catholic college, it no longer describes itself as a religious institution. Though more than 30% pick visual and performing arts, students can choose from 27 subjects in total, including English and world literature, theatre arts, public relations & strategic communication, digital media & video production, entrepreneurship and international studies.
A relatively small college with low student-staff ratios, it has incorporated Finch College, a smaller liberal arts institution, since 1976. There are three college buildings and three halls of residence, including the towering 32-storey 55th Street Residence at the heart of Manhattan, but most students live elsewhere.
The world’s financial capital, New York is also a cultural centre, with copious amounts of museums, galleries, theatres, concert halls, poetry readings and comedy. It is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world.
Geraldine Ferraro, the Democratic 1984 vice-presidential candidate and the first female running mate of either of the country’s two main parties, Annaleigh Ashford, a Tony-award winning actor and singer with a range of TV and Broadway roles, and Princess Marie of Denmark, are all MMC alumni.
