关于 Colby-Sawyer College
Colby-Sawyer College is a small institution in the American state of New Hampshire.
Established in 1837, it became a higher education institution in 1928, admitting women only until 1989. It gained its current name in 1975, a tribute to Susan Colby, the institution’s first teacher, and H. Leslie Sawyer, a popular president who guided the college through much of the first half of the 20th century. It is not to be confused with Colby College in the neighbouring state of Maine, which in 1974 requested that Colby-Sawyer change its then name (Colby College – New Hampshire). After a court case, the New Hampshire college eventually agreed to change its name to Colby-Sawyer College. Colby-Sawyer grew its campus significantly around the turn of the millennium, expanding to 200 acres and adding two more halls of residence as well as more student facilities.
The college is located in the state’s Lake Sunapee region, and circled by several lakes. Sunapee is the largest in the area, but Pleasant Lake, closer to the university, is also popular with swimmers. It lies in the small town of New London, a well-liked holiday destination since the 19th century which many retire to for its high quality of life.
All Colby-Sawyer students take part in internships as part of their degrees, which last four years. As well as a wide range of undergraduate courses, it offers a small number of online and postgraduate programmes.
Colby-Sawyer alumni include several state governors and Nate Corddry, an actor most famous for his appearances in Harry’s Law, the Daily Show and 30 Rock.
