One of the 23-member California State University system, California State University-San Bernardino (CSUSB) was established in 1965 and is located at the foot of the San Bernardino Mountains, and within an hour of Joshua Tree National Park and downtown Los Angeles.
The university has the second highest number of African American and Hispanic students of all public universities in California, and seventy percent of graduates are the first in their families to be awarded a university degree.
CSUSB is home to over 20,000 students, the majority of whom come from the San Bernardino and Riverside counties and more than half of the current enrolment are Hispanic.
The main university campus is more than 400 acres and sits on the north side of the city of San Bernardino. Centred around the John M. Pfau Library, the campus provides accommodation for more than 1,500 students and other distinctive points of interest include the prestigious Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art and the 5000-seat Coussoulis Arena, home to the university basketball team.
There is also a CSUSB satellite campus, which was opened in 1986 and is known as the Palm Desert Campus. A lot of the students who attend this campus are from the Coachella Valley and it was actually built solely with private funding.
Among famous former CSUSB students are Ahmed Sultan Bin Sulayem, the Executive Chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority, professional basketballers Jimmy Alapag and Ivan Johnson, and former bodybuilder Frank Zane.
