Ethics and cash

三月 23, 2001

Beggars cannot be choosers. The General Agreement on Trade in Services-oriented ventures necessarily adopt the spirit of the neo-liberalist ideology that has set them up: a maximum of profit in a minimum of time, whatever the "collateral" damages ("UK quality guidelines perpetuate colonialism", THES , March 16).

It is up to British universities to decide whether they wish to be seen in this light or whether they should add an "ethical" dimension to their reworded Quality Assurance Code of Practice, remembering that ethics and money do not overlap in the short term but may well strengthen each other in the long term.
