The data portal for the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 is now open, with institutions from across the world invited to take part.
Interested universities can now submit data to be included in the flagship league table, which will be published in October 2024. The portal will be open for more than three months, closing on 30 March. There are no fees to participate but only institutions that submit data through the portal will be included in the table.
Data submission is open to all universities, but institutions will be ranked only if they teach undergraduates, produce research across a range of subjects and have published at least 1,000 research publications between 2019 and 2023, with a minimum of 150 a year. A list of exclusions can be found here.
Institutions that do not meet the ranking requirements are still encouraged to provide data as they will be able to access benchmarking tools via THE DataPoints. They will also be listed in the relevant rankings tables as “reporter” institutions, unless they opt out of this status.
Advice and guidance on how to submit institutional data is available on the portal in several languages. After the portal closes at the end of March, universities may be contacted to verify their data.
Last year, for the 2024 edition, THE’s data team, in partnership with the global higher education sector, collected data from more than 2,673 universities, across 127 territories. More than 400,000 data values were also analysed and upwards of 30,000 queries were resolved to create the rankings.
THE’s bibliometric data supplier Elsevier also analysed 16.5 million research papers and 134 million citations.
The information collected through the portal this year will fuel not only the 2025 global ranking and subject tables, but also several regional and thematic rankings, including THE’s Arab, Asia, Latin America and Young University tables.
Universities that would like to participate in the inaugural THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) must submit data for the World University Rankings. These institutions will also need to submit extra data on their interdisciplinary science via the WUR data portal. However, institutions can take part in WUR without participating in the ISR. The data collection for ISR will also close on 30 March and the ranking will be published in autumn 2024.
In autumn 2023, THE’s consultancy team ran a series of masterclasses analysing the results of the World University Rankings 2024 and discussing participation for the 2025 edition. The masterclass recordings can be accessed here.
