Founded in 2010, Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University is a public university located in the small city of Ballari, Ballari district, in Karnataka State, India. It is named after Krishnadevaraya, a medieval emperor of the Vijayanagara Empire.
The university was once the postgraduate centre of Gulbarga University, before establishing itself as an independent institution in 2010. It is comprised of four campuses, its main one being located in Ballari city, with postgraduate centres more rurally situated in Nandihalli, close to Sandur Town, Koppal and Yalburga.
Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University offers various graduate and postgraduate programmes. It is divided into seven departments: applied sciences, business studies, education, pure sciences, social sciences, arts, and law. Each department is sub-divided into different schools offering a variety of courses including zoology, industrial chemistry, political science, mass communication, Kannada, English and botany. Across its postgraduate campuses, it offers around 50 postgraduate programmes in total.
