The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is Australia’s fourth oldest university. It is ranked in the top 300 universities worldwide1 and is one of Australia’s premier university for teaching excellence, recently receiving more teaching awards than any other Australian university. 2

With more than 34,000 students, the University provides a creative and stimulating academic environment and vibrant campus life. While maintaining a distinctive Tasmanian identity, the University of Tasmania offers a truly internationalised curriculum and broad access to a diverse range of degrees, student exchanges and learning experiences to shape future global leaders.

Location

Tasmania is uniquely placed to offer a true Australian experience. The state is an overwhelmingly English-speaking environment and has a traditional Australian culture, all in a stunning and fun-packed location. Less than two hours from Sydney and less than one hour from Melbourne, Tasmania is known for its friendly, welcoming people, pleasant temperate climate, easy access to wilderness and heritage, and a cosmopolitan lifestyle with a strong arts culture.

The two international University of Tasmania campuses in Hobart and Launceston are large enough to offer you a vibrant and unique learning environment with world-class facilities, but still small enough to ensure friendly connections between staff and students, and a strong focus on the needs of the individual.

Courses

The University of Tasmania is very highly regarded for its commitment to excellence in learning and teaching. The University offers more than 100 undergraduate (bachelor) degrees, and more than 150 postgraduate programs from Graduate Certificates through to Masters and research programs.

Discipline areas for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs are across five faculties and three specialist institutes:

Arts & Law: humanities, social sciences, the Tasmanian College of the Arts, laws, legal studies

Tasmanian School of Business and Economics: accounting, finance, economics, management

Education: primary, physical activity studies, teaching

Health: medicine, pharmacy, nursing, psychology, human life sciences, laboratory medicine

Science, Engineering and Technology: agricultural science, architecture and design, chemistry, information and communication technology, earth sciences (geology), engineering, geography and environmental studies, mathematics and physics, plant science, spatial sciences, zoology

Australian Maritime College: national centres for maritime engineering and hydrodynamics, and ports and shipping

Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies: marine and Antarctic, fisheries and aquaculture, and marine conservation coursework and research programs
