About

Basic information and contact details for the University of Southern Mindanao

institution

The University of Southern Mindanao was originally founded in 1954 by the late Bai Hadja Fatima Matabay Plang, an educator and philanthropist. It was established as the Mindanao Institute of Technology and was renamed in 1978 when it gained university status.

The university operates across several campuses across Southern Philippines: Kabacan, which is the main campus, the Buluan campus, the Libungan campus, the Alamada campus, and the Kidapawan City campus. The university’s multi-campus setup enables it to reach a broader demographic of students and extend its educational outreach to underserved areas, thereby contributing to the socioeconomic development of the area.

USM has a diverse range of academic programmes including agriculture, forestry, education, engineering, arts and sciences, business, and law. Its comprehensive curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in their chosen fields and contribute positively to society.

Outside the classroom, the Office of Student Affairs is responsible for overseeing the university’s array of extracurricular activities. From cultural events and student clubs to annual sports competitions, there is something on offer to suit all interests.
