King’s produces more highly cited research outputs (top 1% citations) on palliative care than any other Centre internationally (SciVal). It is among the top in the world for midwifery and palliative care research and education and also has strong research programmes in digital health care, care in long term conditions and participatory methodologies.

We are now looking for an outstanding academic to join us to take a leading role in the statistical aspects of clinical trials and other epidemiological research studies relevant to populations with complex health needs. This is an exciting opportunity to join an interdisciplinary environment, with the opportunity to work across the distinctive expertise of the Faculty, in particular palliative care, holistic care in long term conditions and digital health innovations. The postholder will also work closely with the central King’s Clinical Trials Unit, enabling the postholder to collaborate with our other Health disciplines.  

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a track record of high-quality publications, including evidence of securing major grant funding. They will contribute to interdisciplinarity, developing collaborative structures and working relationships with statisticians and epidemiologists across King’s. In doing so they will raise the profile of statistics and epidemiology in the Faculty nationally and internationally, and contribute to the growth and development of others in the Faculty through mentoring and post-graduate teaching.

Applicants must have a PhD, an excellent publication record, and a strong track record of securing research funding from funders such as the UKRI and NIHR.  It is essential that applicants have the enthusiasm and commitment required to contribute to the further development of the research standing of the faculty, and to contribute to teaching and administrative activities.

Duties

The appointees will be required to:

(a)   conduct research that leads to publication in top-tier refereed journals;

(b)   pursue actively external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator;

(c)   provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;

(d)   contribute to departmental service; and

(e)   perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should:

(a)   have a doctoral degree in a related discipline;

(b)   preferably have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience

(c)   have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;

(d)   be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills;

(e)   and be a good team player and have excellent communication skills and the ability to use English as the medium of instruction.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.

About the opportunity

The Digital Fabrication Lab Coordinator is a Senior Technical Support team lead based in the University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning. This role will manage the Digital Fabrication facilities and staffing of the Design Modelling and Fabrication Lab (DMaF Lab), including 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, robotics and other digital technologies associated with design and fabrication.

This role provides leadership, guidance and support to staff in the work area, solves complex technical challenges, and manages an exciting and evolving area focused on digital fabrication.

The role is based in the Design Modelling and Fabrication Lab, a space in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning that supports a diverse community of designers and learners to prototype their ideas, tackle design challenges, and experiment with new techniques through the provision of industry leading technology and technical support.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	oversee day-to-day operation of the Digital Fabrication Lab, developing the facility to ensure the work area meets the technical teaching, learning and research support needs of the School
	coordinate and provide specialist digital fabrication services, training and support to students, researchers and other technical staff in a range of digital fabrication focused technology, including CAD and CAM
	manage a team of technical staff including ongoing, casual and student assistant positions
	ensure compliance with work health and safety standards
	develop technical instruction material and collaborate with academic staff to provide excellent teaching support and support student experience
	deliver service excellence to the stakeholders of the School.


About you


	an expert background in digital fabrication and making, who has leadership and administrative skills and is ready to lead a technical support team to deliver service excellence.
	strong organisation and time management abilities - they will be planning and coordinating a roster of casual staff and working with multiple stakeholders across the School
	able to negotiate with academic staff, provide support to their team, and will oversee student communications from the lab
	a supportive, team-focused and collaborative approach to their work
	high level computer skills, including design software, CAD and CAM with the ability to learn, master and instruct new software as required
	proficiency with excel and able to operate a range of scheduling and record keeping systems
	dedicated to teaching and learning; designing and running in-person inductions as well as developing online resources for the lab
	ensure Workplace Health and Safety compliance across their work area, and is responsible for making sure the work area operates efficiently and effectively.
	previous experience in tertiary education technical support and in fabrication or design focused roles is essential.

About the opportunity

The School of Humanities is inviting applications for a Research Associate in Philosophy who will undertake research within the Future Fellowship ARC project "Women Philosophers on Nature & the Human: Toward a New Environmental Ethics."

The project aims to investigate women philosophers' contributions to the crucial categories of the natural and the human, and explore how women - who were often identified with nature - negotiated their position as both natural and human and developed distinctive accounts of the human-nature relation. The project will retrieve the forgotten voices of women philosophers, furnish a richer understanding of their place in the history of philosophy, expand our knowledge of women's contributions to ecological, ethical, and social thought, and deepen understanding of the value of historical and humanistic perspectives in tackling environmental problems. Further, by mobilising this research through public-facing platforms, the project will engage the community in new ways, while also expanding and deepening public understanding and appreciation of women's intellectual authority.

This research aligns with National Interest and ARC objectives - it provides benefits to the nation by addressing three policy pillars: 1) expanding knowledge of the past; 2) helping to build public resilience in a time of environmental crisis; and 3) advancing Australia's effort to achieve equality and inclusivity in society and professional life.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	conduct research independently or as part of a team, contributing to discipline knowledge
	lead or contribute to co-authored academic articles with members of the research team
	lead or contribute to the dissemination of research findings to policymakers and members of the public
	assist in developing/co-ordinating research activities (eg: workshops and conferences) and participate in the setting of future research directions of the project


About you


	a completed PhD in Philosophy
	a research profile in philosophy with demonstrated understanding of the subject matter within the discipline
	experience in conducting original research or engaging in scholarly activities within a research-intensive environment
