About the Role 

Join Melbourne Climate Futures, an interdisciplinary initiative of the University of Melbourne, dedicated to addressing the global challenges and opportunities presented by climate change. Situated within the vibrant Melbourne Connect precinct, this role offers the chance to collaborate with distinguished academics across law, finance, economics, and health sciences. The Research Fellow will contribute to groundbreaking research, knowledge dissemination, and stakeholder engagement, with a particular focus on sustainable finance, corporate climate action, and regulatory frameworks. This is a unique opportunity for a talented and driven researcher to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, produce impactful research outputs, and play an integral part in advancing climate change policy and practice at a global level. 

Your responsibilities will include: 


	Conducting and analysing interdisciplinary research across fields such as law, finance, and economics, preparing high-quality reports, submissions, and publications to support climate-related initiatives. 
	Collaborating with academic leaders and stakeholders, coordinating workshops, roundtables, and seminars to advance research, engagement, and knowledge exchange. 
	Managing communications and dissemination activities, contributing to the Melbourne Climate Futures website and other channels to enhance visibility of the University’s climate research. 
	Building and maintaining effective working relationships, contributing to administrative and collegial activities within Melbourne Law School and Melbourne Climate Futures, and supporting the strategic objectives of the initiative.

You also have: 


	Strong academic qualifications, including an undergraduate degree with a focus on climate change and a Master's degree in a relevant field. A PhD in a climate-related discipline is required for higher-level appointments (A.6 and above). 
	Demonstrated expertise in interdisciplinary climate research, with a solid understanding of the social, environmental, technological, and economic dimensions of climate change impacts and responses. 
	Proven ability to produce high-quality research outputs, including academic publications, policy analyses, and other written materials, particularly within the realm of climate change policy. 
	Exceptional communication and organisational skills, enabling effective engagement with diverse stakeholders and the successful coordination of multiple tasks, including workshops and collaborative initiatives.

About the Role 

We have an exciting and unique opening within our Finance and Procurement team for a Procurement Category Manager. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the procurement and contracting of specified major commodity groups across the University, or for specific high-risk procurement projects.  The role involves developing an in-depth understanding of the University stakeholder requirements including extensive consultation with user groups and leading cross functional teams to deliver exceptional procurement outcomes.

About You 

We are looking for a skilled and personable procurement professional with:


	Experience in end to end sourcing/procurement within a medium to large, or complex organisation, or significant services procurement, and understanding of category management principles
	Experience in the commercial negotiation and drafting of contracts and superior written skills
	A continuous improvement mindset to allow strategic advancements

Efficient loudness measurement for hearing impaired listeners

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a 2-year project between the Universities of Southampton, University College London and the Eriksholm Research Centre. Through this research centre and the funder (the William Demant Foundation) the project is linked with the hearing aid (Oticon) and hearing diagnostics (Interacoustics) industry.

Excessive loudness perception is widely considered to be the main cause of hearing aid non-use. Our project’s overall aim is to develop, optimise and evaluate novel algorithms for efficiently estimating loudness perception in hearing impaired listeners, using both simple modulated tones and complex real-world sounds. We will develop efficient measurement approaches, based on machine learning methods, to measure individual’s perception of loudness growth in order to enable improved hearing aid fitting procedures based on personalised prescriptions.

The project team is multidisciplinary, including expertise in clinical Audiology, Hearing Science, Machine learning and biomedical signal processing. The team includes Professor Steven Bell and Professor David Simpson from the University of Southampton, Dr Josef Schlittenlacher from University College London, Dr Lars Bramsløw and Dr Johannes Zaar from the Eriksholm Research Centre, Denmark with consultation from Dr Michael Chesnaye.

Successful applicants will have expertise in Audiology or Biomedical Signal Processing research, preferably with experience of working with hearing impaired subjects and using Machine Learning or Data Analysis approaches. Depending on prior experience, tasks will either involve the development and implementation of novel algorithms for the estimation of loudness growth functions and/or testing and optimising these methods in cohorts of normal hearing and hearing-impaired participants.

Whilst the post is for a level 4 Research Fellow, applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

The post is intended to start in the early months of 2025 (depending on the notice period of the successful candidate). The project start is also pending a collaboration agreement being put in place between the centres involved, although this is not envisaged to delay the project.

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop novel membranes and separation processes for wastewater treatment and resource recovery.

Key Responsibilities:


	Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
	Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
	i. Synthesis of nanomaterials
	ii. Fabrication of membranes
	iii. Characterize, evaluate and optimize the membranes
	iv. Wastewater treatment and resource recovery experiments and simulation
	v. Basic engineering design and economic cost analysis
	Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
	Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
	Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.


Job Requirements:


	Have relevant competence in the areas of water treatment and membrane development
	Have a degree in chemical engineering or related fields. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will be advantageous
	Knowledge of polymer synthesis and material chemistry will be advantageous

The Laboratory for Computer-Human Intelligence in the Division of Engineering of New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), seeks to recruit a motivated Post-Doctoral Associate to work on cutting-edge machine learning / artificial intelligence applications that utilize human signals (e.g. text, audio, physiology).

Technical Experience

The successful applicant will have the following technical experience in:


	The development of end-to-end applications (e.g. databases, algorithms, visualizations).
	Processing one or more data types/signals (e.g. text, audio, images, physiology).
	Applying machine learning algorithms (e.g. regression, neural networks).
	Utilizing the following programming languages/frameworks: bash, SQL, Python, HTML, Javascript, and Tensorflow/Pytorch, as well as code version control (git).
	Authoring peer-reviewed scientific papers in top-tier scientific venues.


Attitude
