About the area

The School of Earth and Oceans at The University of Western Australia undertakes diverse fundamental and applied research with recognised strengths in mineral geoscience, petroleum geoscience, geochemistry, hydrogeology and marine geoscience. The School has an international reputation in research and teaching with strong support from the mineral exploration, petroleum and groundwater industries, and well-established collaborations with industry and state and federal government agencies.

The Centre for Exploration Targeting, within the School of Earth and Oceans at UWA, and JCU at Townsville have developed, together with AMIRA (Australian Mineral Industry Research Association) an applied research project which is funded by BHP, AngloGoldAshanti, Newmont, B2Gold and Poderosa). The project also involves Universities in, and Geological Surveys of, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Ecuador.

About the opportunity


	Create/cultivate scientific network with AMIRA sponsors, Geological Surveys and Universities including UWA and JCU.
	Collect structural data and conduct structural-kinematic mapping of selected geological traverses to establish structural – tectonic, petrogenetic architecture across scales.
	Map and collect intrusive rocks in order to reconstruct the petrogenetic and geotectonic framework, their origin and evolution.
	Conduct mineral chemistry analyses on hydrothermal alteration minerals including sulfides. These analyses include but are not restricted to stable and radiogenic isotopes, laser ICP-MS on minerals and fluid inclusions trapped in veins and hydrothermal alteration minerals in veins, breccias and wall rocks.


About you


	PhD qualification in geosciences.
	Experience and proven track record in conducting field based structural geology, petrologic and/or geochemical investigations.
	Experience with geophysical data, interpretation and integration with structural data in order to develop tectonic/structural models.
	Conducting laboratory investigations including geochronology (SHRIMP and laser ICP-MS), SIMS analyses including Lu-Hf and oxygen, sulfur isotopes, laser ICP-MS analyses on zircons, apatite and other accessory minerals is desirable but not essential.
	Demonstrate scientific achievement with a record of publications commensurate with the years in the academic environment.

Our school

The School of Engineering is one of the most research-intensive Schools within the University. The School offers Engineering degree programs in Aerospace Systems, Chemical, Civil, Computer Systems, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Medical, and, Renewable Energy as well as degree programs in Surveying and Geospatial Engineering. The University was established to serve the Hunter and Central Coast. The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer specialising in Mechatronics Engineering, undertaking research into priority areas including energy-based modelling and control. As the degree program is focussed on Autonomous Systems, the successful applicant will teach from a model-based control systems perspective. You will also have the opportunity to support the NU Marine team (as part of the international RobotX competition) and create and evolve ongoing collaborative relationships with local and international Mechatronics industries, including industries operating in the Williamtown RAAF airbase precinct.

How will you inspire us

The successful candidates will have:


	A PhD in Mechatronics Engineering or related field with a strong background in analytical mechanics and energy-based control methods.
	Demonstrated record of high-quality contribution to research, including evidence of international and national research and industry collaborations/partnerships.
	Demonstrated recent record of successfully taking a chief investigator role (often in conjunction with more experienced researchers) in funding initiatives and obtaining, competitive, external research funding including industry funded research.
	Demonstrated recent active supervision of honours and masters research projects as well as Higher Degree by Research students.
	Demonstrated recent ability to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and honours levels, taking responsibility for the preparation and delivery of course modules. Specialist areas of teaching for this role include analytical mechanics and energy-based control methods.
	Demonstrated recent ability to efficiently perform in allocated internal roles, sharing academic service responsibilities, contributing to outcomes of internal committees, and beginning to develop external collaborations.
	 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including an inter-disciplinary way of working, capacity to build relationships and engagement with industry stakeholders.

AIAC School Overview

The School AI and Advanced Computing (AIAC) is one of 7 industry-themed Schools in the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang). 	Strong publications record in an area of expertise.
	Evidence of success in applying for or obtaining government/industry research funding.

Research Funding Support  

The university has established Research Development Fund to encourage every new faculty member to initiate research projects and a Research Engagement Fund to support their continuous research activities.
