The University of Balamand (UOB) was founded in 1988 and is based in the northern district of El-Koura, Lebanon.
The university consists of 12 different faculties and they are: fine arts, theology, arts and sciences, business and management, tourism and hotel management, sciences, engineering, health sciences, medicine and medical sciences, technology, library and information studies.
The majority of courses are taught in English. There is an intensive English programme for students who have not met the English Language Proficiency Requirement.
The university's main campus is directly adjacent to Balamand Monastery, and it has two other campuses in Beirut. One is in Sin el Fil, which houses the faculty of fine arts, and the other neighbours Saint George Hospital in Achrafieh, which houses the faculty for medicine and medical sciences. It also has campuses in Akkar and Souk El Gharb.
On-campus housing is available at the university. As well as comfortable bedrooms, students will have access to laundry facilities, kitchens, vending machines, wireless internet, TV rooms and study rooms.
There is also a counselling centre, health centre, library and career services. Services provided include: mentoring and coaching, resume and cover letter writing, career search strategies using different channels to build a professional network, seminars, workshops and career-related focus groups.
For students with an interest in sport, there are varsity teams in a variety of sports, including: volleyball, soccer, basketball, track and field, tennis, table tennis, swimming, badminton, handball and rugby.
UOB has established relationships with universities around the world, carrying out various exchange activities such as academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and the opportunity for students to study abroad. The university welcomes students to its campus for two semester exchanges.
