Universitas Padjadjaran, often called Unpad, is an institution of higher education located in Bandung, the provincial capital of West Java in Indonesia. Established in September 1957, the name of the university was taken from the name of a Sundanese kingdom, the Kingdom of Padjadjaran.
The university has two main campuses, one is located in Jatinangor and the other one is in Bandung, mostly dedicated to postgraduate study which is called the Dipati Ukur campus. There are also several other smaller campuses spread out over Bandung including Sekeloa, Banda, Simpang Dago, Eijkman, Dago Pojok and Singaperbangsa as well as the outer city ones in Garut and Pangandaran.
Firstly established, the university just had four departments, namely law, economics, medicine and mathematics and natural sciences. Now, there are 16 faculties and 1 graduate school at the university including law, dentistry, economics, social and political sciences, communications sciences, medicine, fisheries and marine science, mathematics and natural sciences, cultural sciences, agriculture industrial technology, agriculture, psychology, pharmacy, animal husbandry and geological engineering.
There are several postgraduate programmes available at the university as well as 44 undergraduate programmes, two specialist programmes, five professional programmes, some four-year diploma programmes and 32 three-year diploma programmes.
In the field of research, Unpad is actively involved in various scientific disciplines. This encourages lecturers and students to be directly involved in both national and international research grants. In the field of cooperation, Unpad has collaborated with various universities and institutions throughout the world. Unpad has also been included in world-ranking activities and received recognition for its excellence and research contributions especially in world university rankings, sustainability as well as SDGs impacts.
The university has several dormitories for students as well as a large central library, smaller libraries on each campus and two health centres. There is also a mosque on each of the main campuses, two sports facilities, both located on the Jatinangor campus and four laboratories on campus namely clinical skill laboratory, biomedical laboratory, computer laboratory and the learning evaluation laboratory.
