Universidade Estadual do Maranhão (UEMA) was founded in 1987 and is based in Maranhão, Brazil. It was just the second university established in the state.
Maranhão is a great base for students, with the capital, São Luís, being a lively and populous city.
UEMA was initially created with just four units: school of administration, school of engineering, school of agronomy and faculty of Caxias. Since then it has developed to include administration studies, agronomy studies and veterinary medicine studies. Within these departments, students can study at bachelor, masters and PhD level.
UEMA is made up of 22 campuses and 25 university centres across the state. There’s a central library, which serves students across the campuses, which houses a large collection of books to support students in their studies.
Scholarships are available at UEMA, which include full tuition support, a monthly living allowance, housing and medical costs, and relocation support.
The university has established relationships with universities around the world, carrying out various exchange activities such as academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and the opportunity for students to study abroad. The university welcomes students to its campus for two semesters. Courses are taught in English.
