Universidade do Estado do Amazons has a history that dates back to 1972 when Universidade de Technologia do Amazonas was established. In 2001 the university was renamed Universidade do Estado do Amazons and it has since become Brazil’s largest multi-campus university.
The university has campuses in 17 cities, but its main one is located in Manaus, a city in northwestern Brazil. Manaus is the capital of the Amazonas State and is the country’s seventh largest city.
The university’s newest campus is situated in the city of Iranduba, 25 km from Manaus. This campus sits by the Rio Negro River and is home to the university hospital.
There are five schools within the university: arts and tourism, social sciences, health, technology, and the school of regular higher education. Each school is divided into specialised departments, which offer a range of degree programmes at bachelor, masters and doctoral level.
The university is also home to a number of Centres for Advanced Studies. These centres are situated in Itacoatiara, Tefé, Tabatinga, Parintins, São Gabriel da Cachoeira, and Lábrea.
