Universidad UTE was originally established in 1971 as the Equinoctial Technological Institute (ITE).
The university is located in Quito, Ecuador’s capital and most populous city.
The university consists of seven academic faculties: faculty of gastronomic sciences and tourism, faculty of law and social sciences, faculty of administrative sciences, faculty of sciences, engineering and construction, faculty of architecture and urbanism, faculty of engineering sciences and industries, and Eugenio Espejo faculty of health sciences. Each faculty offers a range of undergraduate and graduate courses for students to study. The university also offers a diploma in community management and a diploma in sustainable construction.
There are four research centres within the university: the Food Research Centre, Centre for Biomedical Research, Centre for Genetics and Genomics Research, and the Centre for Research in Public Health and Clinical Epidemiology.
The University Publishing House publishes student and staff research findings in a number of scientific journals such as EÍDOS Magazine, Tsafiqui Magazine and the Economy and Business Magazine.
The International Relations Office is responsible for establishing partnerships with other higher education institutions around the world. These partnerships facilitate academic exchange programmes allowing students at the university to study abroad for one or two semesters. Students can choose to study in countries including Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Brazil and Columbia.
