The only non-state university in the Surkhandaya district of Uzbekistan, Termiz University of Economics and Service is located just outside the city of Termiz.
Students are spread across three faculties. Economics and information technology offers five degree courses including tourism and has new accommodation under construction. Education and social science offers courses in elementary education, education and psychology and Russian, Uzbek and English language. The faculty of medicine runs courses in medicine and in dentistry and has plans for a teaching hospital.
The university is developing international relationships, particularly with Turkey. Two teachers of Turkish began work in the Language Teaching Centre in April 2024, adding to existing provision in English, Russian and German. There is a collaborative relationship with Kocaeli University, Izmir.
There is a strong student tradition in combat sports. The Rector’s Cup is offered for student competition in wresting, while students have won national titles in karate and taekwondo.
Community outreach is a priority, with involvement in school Science Olympiads in the Surkhandaya district.
