The Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences and The Laboratory of Ecology and Evolution of Interactions invites applications for: a Postdoctoral Researcher position in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

The projects will be housed at the University of Helsinki Viikki campus in the group of Prof. Johanna Mappes within the Organismal and Evolutionary Biology Research Program.  https://predatorpreyinteractions.com/  We seek a highly motivated individual with a strong background in behavioral ecology, ecology, and/or evolutionary ecology.

Position Details:


	Focus: Investigating how the interplay between phenotype and genotype affects individual and population fitness.
	Duration: 2-3 years
	Start Date: Negotiable, but no later than the end of April 2025


Key Qualifications:


	PhD in a relevant field (Behavioral Ecology, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, or related disciplines)
	Strong research background with demonstrable experience in behavioral ecology, ecology, and/or evolutionary ecology
	Experience with experimental design and implementation
	Experience and/or interest in supervising students and coordinating a research team
	Experience with fieldwork; prior experience with Lepidoptera is an asset but not a requirement
	Proven ability to conduct independent research and publish findings in scientific journals
	Excellent teamwork and communication skills
	Driving license

About the Role

As the Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor, you will contribute to the teaching, scholarship, research and industry engagement efforts of the School in the Discipline of Osteopathy. More specifically, you will be responsible for teaching activities in the osteopathy program. You will maintain and continue to advance your scholarly, professional and/or research capabilities. You will also be expected to actively promote the program by establishing and maintaining industry engagement, memberships, links and partnerships with academic, and professional communities. You will work collaboratively and collegially with fellow academics within the teaching team, and update colleagues and students on developments in field of osteopathy. You will also be responsible for course coordination.

Furthermore, level D appointment will also include:


	Providing original, innovative and distinguished contributions to the School's programs
	Making significant contribution to the planning and strategic direction of the School, taking on academic leadership roles involving participation in various committees within the School, College and University and external to the University, as appropriate
	You may be appointed in a leadership role for a specific discipline or to provide strategic leadership for learning and teaching or research and scholarship


About You

To be successful for level C appointment, you will have:


	Demonstrated ability to coordinate large courses and prepare and deliver courses at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including high quality curriculum and program materials in acute care, disability, or aged care and ability to implement innovative approaches to student-centred learning and quality improvement.
	Demonstrated ability to support student issues related to effective learning and liaise with clinical agencies to support student learning and problem solve.
	Emerging nationally recognised research track record including substantial record of research outputs in high quality outlets.
	Experience in research leadership with the ability to build and develop collaborative research teams, mentor academic staff to deliver high quality outcomes, attract and secure external research funding to sustain research effort and manage funded research projects.
	Emerging experience in supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance.
	Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills including the ability to build effective networks with colleagues and external agencies to generate clinical placements for RMIT students


To be successful for level D appointment, you will have:


	Demonstrated ability to direct an award program/s and implement program improvements and innovative approaches to student-centred learning and quality improvement programs.
	Nationally recognised research track record, including substantial record of research outputs in high quality outlets and emerging international recognition.
	Extensive experience in research leadership with the ability to build and develop collaborative research teams, mentor academic staff to deliver high quality outcomes, attract and secure external research funding to sustain research effort, manage funded research projects including complex budgets and reporting requirements.
	Extensive experience in supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance.
	Demonstrated ability to lead scholarly development and manage and supervise academic teams and members.
	Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to financial, governance and quality management systems within a University.
	Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills including the ability to consult with senior executives, external bodies, produce executive reports, negotiate agreed directions, outcomes and targets within a collaborative environment.
	Proven ability as an effective member of a management team that develops and achieves shared goals and objectives


Qualifications

For level C: PhD or equivalent in relevant field and registered with Ahpra as an Osteopath or eligible to register.

For level D: PhD in relevant field and registered with Ahpra as an Osteopath, or eligible to register.

The CORNERSTONE Photonics Innovation Centre (C-PIC) at the University of Southampton has a shared vision: to take Silicon Photonics technologies from research labs to everyday life by enabling ubiquitous Silicon Photonics solutions.

The aim of the C-PIC team is to provide a Silicon Photonics fabrication service to researchers from across the globe, centred around unique cleanroom capabilities in Southampton, UK (www.cornerstone.sotonfab.co.uk). We are seeking a Research Technician who is passionate about supporting cutting-edge research in a growing team of enthusiastic colleagues. In the role of Research Technician you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a number of tools housed within the world-class cleanroom facility. These tools will be used to fabricate state-of-the-art Silicon Photonics devices for C-PIC users, as well as internal research and enterprise projects. You will be able to learn from some of the best researchers in the field and will gain valuable, transferable skills within the field of photonics device fabrication. You will be provided with full training in addition to the opportunity to attend seminars and conferences to deepen your knowledge. As a key member of the C-PIC delivery team, you will benefit from a financial training allowance to support your personal and professional development including in areas such as EDI, innovation, and digitisation.

Experience in a laboratory environment, with proven experience of successfully planning and progressing work activities is essential. Skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 or basic professional qualification in a science related subject, or equivalent industry experience, is required. Basic knowledge in Silicon Photonics device fabrication is desirable.

The Position

The Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (CPAS) is the leading centre in Australia for research, education and practice in science communication and engagement. CPAS is a global leader in the field, with collaborations across our region and the world. The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the work of CPAS through collaborative research, stakeholder engagement and knowledge-exchange working closely with Dr. Jasper Montana and other key members of the team. Specifically, they will carry out research on “knowledge, data and decision-making about people and nature relations”, which will apply empirical and theoretical methods to explore the methods, metrics and means by which knowledge, data and decision-making are produced about people and nature relations, such as socioecological indicators and well-being frameworks, in both Australia and internationally. The research will evaluate the ways in which different perspectives on people and nature relations capture the values, goals, and priorities of diverse stakeholders, and the potential of different approaches to inform environmental governance, including the conservation of nature, the maintenance of biocultural diversity, and the planning of urban green and blue spaces. The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the planning, development and delivery of research, including producing peer-reviewed publications as well as policy recommendations. 

The Person

We are looking for a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to quickly develop productive, professional relationships with colleagues and clients. Highly developed organisational skills and effective self-management are key. To excel in this role, the role holder will have a PhD in science and technology studies, environmental governance, environmental sociology, environmental politics, human or environmental geography or a related field, and have the ability to articulate and prosecute innovative research and critical analysis that will contribute new insights on the institutions and practices that produce knowledge, data and decision-making about people and nature relations.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

The Department of Applied Mathematics invites applications for positions at any level. Our international department has academic staff actively engaged in research in the analysis of differential equations, numerical analysis, optimisation, operational research as well as their applications.
