St Mary’s University, Twickenham is located in Twickenham, London. It was founded in 1850 by the Catholic Poor Schools Committee to train sufficient teachers to educate the growing population of poor children in London.
It was first established in Brook Green, Hammersmith, with just six male students. With the cooperation of the Congregation of the Mission, the university flourished and outgrew their campus in the 1920’s. The university now has two campuses: the main campus on Strawberry Hill House grounds and the Teddington Lock campus. In 2014, St Mary’s College was awarded university status by the Privy Council, leading to its new title as St Mary’s University.
