Sohar University is located in the coastal city of Sohar on the Gulf of Oman.
Sohar University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across its six faculties: business; computing and IT; education and arts; engineering; language studies and law.
The Department of Student Activities helps students find a work life balance at university, arranging sporting activities for students to join. The sporting clubs include volleyball, football, tennis, basketball, athletics, rovers, chess, cavalry and hand ball.
They also prepare cultural excursions and activities to help students make friends and find new hobbies, such as theatre, arts, photography and debating. Through a series of programmes, exhibitions and workshops, students can enjoy fine arts, calligraphy, digital art and handicrafts as a way of learning a new skill or refining an existing skill. Volunteering activities are also offered to students who are keen to help the local community while developing their personal skills.
The area of Sohar is abundant with sandy beaches - perhaps most popular is its long corniche which is used daily by walkers, cyclists and runners. The town centre is bustling with shops, markets, restaurants, cafés and tailors. Students can also enjoy new shopping malls with chain stores, coffee shops and cinemas.
Another attraction in Sohar is the Sultan Qaboos Mosque, only 2km from the university campus and opposite the Sultan’s Palace. Around the city, students can travel a short distance to enjoy parks, castles, mountains and valleys to escape the city life.
