ABOUT XJTLU

In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was created by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China. Offering a unique international education experience, XJTLU brings together excellent research practice and expertise from both institutions and gives students the skills and knowledge they need to secure careers in a global marketplace. The Taicang site will be a pioneer of, and educational model for, the future campus in addressing challenges arising from the 4th Industrial Revolution. Other new initiatives include new working partnerships with Xi’an Jiaotong University, the continued development of the four new Academies, and exploration of further potential locations to develop the SE model.

With a focus on innovative learning and teaching, and research, XJTLU draws on the strengths of its parent universities, and plays a pivotal role in facilitating access to China for UK and other institutional partners. ABOUT INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL SUZHOU (IBSS)

International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is growing in size and influence in pursuit of its vision to be a leading international business school. The school is based on strong principles of internationalism, innovation, inspiration and integrity, which together ensure that we have a positive impact on society through our teaching, research and business engagement. In that pursuit, IBSS became the youngest business school to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 2016, and again, the youngest School to receive EQUIS accreditation in 2018. Receiving joint accreditation of AMBA and BGA in 2020, IBSS became the world’s 103rd triple accredited business school.

The five departments of IBSS are Accounting, Economics, Finance, Intelligent Operations and Marketing, and Strategic Management and Organizations with over 170 faculty members and more than 6,000 students from over 60 different countries. IBSS delivers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, PhD and Executive Education programmes across all major business disciplines.

The Department of Accounting becomes an independent academic unit with the beginning of the 2020/21 academic year, as a result of splitting the original Department of Accounting and Finance. At present, the Accounting Department has a team of 30 academic staff, publishing in high-quality international accounting journals and also maintaining a balance of academic research and professional engagement. More than 80% of our accounting faculty members are affiliated with at least one of the professional accounting bodies as follows: AICPA, UK CIMA/ICAEW/ACCA, CA/CPA Australia, CICPA/HKICPA. Members of the department mainly teach BA Accounting programme and MSc Professional Accounting programme, and also support widely many other business-related programmes. Our MSc Professional Accounting programme has received professional accreditation from ICAEW. BA Accounting programme has received professional accreditations from the ACCA, CIMA, CPA Australia and ICAEW. In addition, our BA Accounting students have been performing well in national/international competitions organized by professional accounting bodies: for example, championship (2020) in CIMA GBC competition in North Asia region.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATION

XJTLU is a research-led university. In this context, even though the workload of faculty in IBSS is generally shared between teaching, research, and service, early-career faculty members are expected to spend the majority of their time on research, followed by teaching, then service. Research activities include the publication of research articles, attendance of international conferences, and applications for research funding. Research performance in the School is benchmarked on internationally recognized lists of journal quality such as the Academic Journal Guide (UK) – a.k.a. the ABS list – and the ABDC list (Australia). The target levels on those lists are ABS3/ABDC-A or above.

Essential Qualifications/Experience

Successful applicants to the position of Assistant/Associate Professor are expected to have:


	A PhD degree in Accounting or a related field,
	Teaching experience in higher education,
	A proven record of academic publications in good journals, or alternatively, for early-career academics, a strong pipeline of promising research.


Successful applicants to the position of Teaching Fellow (in UK Taxation is preferable) are expected to have:


	A MSc degree in accounting or a related field,
	A recognized professional accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA/CPA etc.), 
	7-year public accounting work experience.


Desirable Qualifications/Experience


	Curriculum design and programme development experience.
	Engagement with professional community.

About the opportunity

The School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Sydney is looking to appoint a .5 FTE Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work with Lisa Adkins, Martijn Konings, Stephen Whelan and Dan Woodman (University of Melbourne) on their ARC funded Discovery Project Wealth Inequality in Australia: Sources and Solutions

The project aims to investigate the causes and consequences of asset price inflation and increasing inequalities in asset-based wealth in Australia. It expects to generate significant new knowledge about the evolution of asset based inequality and about how the increasing concentration of asset-ownership is shaping the life opportunities of young people. Expected outcomes include the identification of policy options available to mitigate the negative impact of asset inflation and growing wealth inequality.

The post-doctoral research associate will primarily be involved in the strand of the project focused on policy analysis. Responsibilities may include literature analysis, archival research, conducting interviews with industry and government actors, and the analysis of interview data. The post-doctoral research associate will be expected to work closely with the other research associates engaged in the project and assist with day-to-day project management. The preferred start date is 6th January 2025.

	understanding of the institutional structure of Australian social and economic policy
	interest in undertaking policy-relevant research
	skills in the collection, coding and analysis of qualitative data

The Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1143 "Correlated Magnetism: From Frustration To Topology" offers 5 positions as

Research Associate/ PhD student (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting as soon as possible. The positions are limited until December 31, 2026 and entail 50% to 75% of the full-time weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The extension of employment up to 3 years is planned subject to the availability of existing funds. The positions offer the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD).

Tasks: The SFB is devoted to the investigation of materials and models with strong electronic correlations, focusing on frustrated magnetism and topological states of matter. Positions are available in the fields: Experimental Condensed Matter Physics (2 positions), Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics (2 positions), Inorganic Chemistry (1 positions).

Scientific tasks within the SFB encompass synthesis of novel materials, crystal growth, measurements of thermodynamic and transport properties, also under extreme conditions, neutron and electron spectroscopy, scanning probe microscopy and spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance measurements, numerical simulations of quantum spin systems, and calculations of thermodynamic and transport properties using microscopic or field-theoretic methods. We expect a close collaboration with scientific partners and the supervision of Bachelor and Master thesis projects.

Requirements: a very good university degree, preferentially in physics or chemistry; motivation for doing outstanding basic research both independently and in collaborations; proficiency in German or English; ideally experience with experiments or modeling of magnetic materials.

Description

Program Overview

The NYU Abu Dhabi Summer Academy is an 18-month university preparation program designed to enhance the academic profiles of highly motivated Emirati high school students. The program features intensive instruction in Leadership and Public Speaking, Critical Thinking and Writing, Mathematical Reasoning for the Sciences, College Readiness and Success, and IELTS Preparation over the course of two summers and an intervening academic year. 

Following a competitive admissions process, up to 90 program participants are selected each year as recipients of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholarships for Outstanding High School Students, which enables them to attend the Summer Academy.

In this mixed-gender program, students are exposed to a rich cultural and rigorous academic program which enhances their ability to gain admission to and perform well at top-tier English-language universities. The program begins during the summer following the 10th year of high school and continues for the following 18 months, with two intensive summer sessions of study in Abu Dhabi at the NYUAD Campus. In addition, students participate in online study and academic refresher weekends during the following academic year.

University Preparation

Students gain the academic, cultural, and social skills necessary for success at top-tier universities. Summer Academy graduates have attended Yale, NYU New York, NYU Abu Dhabi, Princeton, United Arab Emirates University, The London School of Economics, George Washington University, King’s College London, The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and many others.

Academic Preparation

We introduce students to accelerated study of mathematics, critical thinking and writing, the humanities and to the value of a liberal arts education.

Cultural Awareness

Students develop their understanding of the social and cultural norms of universities and build useful intercultural competencies for success in university.

Test Preparation

We prepare students to excel on the standardized tests necessary for university entry.

Leadership and Public Speaking Skills

With Leadership and Public Speaking as a required course in the Summer Academy,  our program spurs confidence, personal growth, maturity, and leadership skills.

Social Networking

We bring together top students from across the UAE who form a supportive and challenging social network among themselves and with Summer Academy alumni who have gone on to university study, graduate school, professions, and leadership careers.

Job Summary

The Teaching Assistant for the College Readiness and Success (CRS) course will support course delivery for up to three sections of Summer Academy students - students in their first summer of the program and students in their second summer of the program (Summer I and Summer II). The Teaching Assistant will also support programmatic activities throughout the length of the appointment (including weekends) and participate in selection activities and graduation events as needed.

Length of Appointment


	Summer Session: Five weeks from approximately July 7 - August 8, 2025
	Approximately two meetings prior to the summer session’s start for orientation activities.


Principal Responsibilities

The job’s activities in terms that enable someone who knows nothing about the job to understand what is done in each activity.


	Support the delivery of the CRS course for two sections - the Classes of 2025 (Summer II) and 2026 (Summer I) in Abu Dhabi.
	Support the delivery of one additional course, as assigned by the Senior Director.
	Under the supervision of relevant instructor(s), meet students individually or in small groups during study halls, meals, breaks, or in the evenings to assist with reviewing classroom instruction, reading, writing, and homework assignments
	Attend any pre-program meetings and/or training sessions
	Assist relevant instructor(s) in class with group work and with judging presentations, as necessary
	Be available to individual students and groups in need of assistance, as well as to instructors undertaking cross-curricular or collaborative projects
	Provide students with ongoing and regular feedback (oral and written) during the course 
	Participate in faculty meetings by providing detailed feedback on student progress 
	Report any instances of student misconduct, academic performance concerns, or health issues to the Summer Academy administration
	Contribute to the overall collegial atmosphere of the Summer Academy
	Attend and provide assistance as needed with co-curricular events and activities throughout the summer session, which will entail leading small groups of students on excursions and trips or supporting the operations of the program as needed
	Oversee and support students during assigned day trips, extracurricular activities, and events, ensuring a safe and engaging environment that promotes learning and development.

Required Work and Related Experience


	Demonstrated interest in cross-cultural education and enthusiasm for teaching
	Experience supervising high school students in a co-curricular setting (i.e. school or after school program)
	Availability to assist with the planning of the program prior to the start of classes.


Preferred Work and Related Experience


	Work or internship experience teaching English as an additional language
	Familiarity with online and face-to-face instruction
