Basic information and contact details for Seton Hall University

institution

Dating back to 1865, Seton Hall University is a private Catholic institution in New Jersey and is one of the oldest Diocesan universities in the US.

Founded by Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley, the university is named after Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American-born saint. With Catholic values at its heart, Seton Hall university houses a community of priests, many of whom are faculty members.

The university’s three campuses include the 58 acre main campus, located in the quaint town of South Orange and only 14 miles from Manhattan, the Newark campus which is home to their school of law, and the IHS campus which opened in 2018 and houses the college of nursing and medical school.

The university offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programmes with over 90 majors in disciplines including theology, arts and sciences, nursing, international relations and business.

Seton Hall is also home to a vibrant student community. There are an array of active student societies, from the student newspaper “The Setonion” to the well-known men’s basketball team, known as the Pirates.

Students also enjoy university’s proximity to downtown New York, often organising group trips into the city to watch Broadway shows, visit museums and soak up the culture.
