The School of Psychology at the University of Southampton is making strategic academic appointments to grow our research and research-led undergraduate and postgraduate education.

We welcome applications from individuals with a background in areas that complement and extend our expertise in social and personality psychology, health psychology, child and adolescent development and developmental psychopathology, and cognitive neuroscience. We encourage applications from individuals with expertise in social and personality psychology but also welcome applications across all areas of our research portfolio.

You will hold a doctorate in psychology or related discipline, be able to evidence excellence in teaching and research commensurate with your level and share our ambition to deliver the highest quality research, education and training in psychological science in a research-intensive Russell Group environment.

The School of Psychology is recognised for world-leading, high-impact research, supported by excellent research facilities (REF2021). These include excellent clinical-academic links with NHS services, and purpose-built laboratories for neuropsychological/cognitive testing, social interaction and behavioural observation, therapeutic intervention and psychopharmacology, and child/family studies. Facilities include functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electroencephalography (EEG), neurostimulation (TMS/tDCS), psychophysiology, pain research including quantitative sensory testing (QST), eye-tracking, virtual reality and multi-sensory processing: https://www.southampton.ac.uk/psychology/research/index.page

We also benefit from long-standing collaborations with University research groups in Medicine (Psychiatry, Primary Care, Public Health), Biological Sciences (Neuroscience), Health Sciences, Education, Social Sciences, Engineering and Computer Science. Our strategic partnerships with schools, NHS Trusts, Government, charities and industry deliver world leading impact (REF2021) and attract significant grant income from all major research funders.

Our School is one of the largest providers of postgraduate research and clinical training in the UK, offering a range of MSc programmes (Clinical, Health, Research Methods), research doctorates (PhD), Doctoral Programmes in Clinical Psychology (DClin) and Educational Psychology (DEdPsy), and training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Our group covers different topics in theoretical chemistry, from the use of advanced electronic structure methods to the development of dynamical approaches to study photochemical reactions, also including machine learning.

The group is part of the ViRAPID research platform on Accelerating Photoreaction Discovery, funded by the University of Vienna. In collaboration with Christoph Dellago (Faculty of Physics) and Ullise Stefanelli (Faculty of Mathematics), the goal is to develop sampling methods for excited states leveraging machine learning for the calculation of electronic properties.

Your personal sphere of play:

The position is at the Institute of Theoretical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry.

You will develop and apply methods which can describe rare events in the electronic excited state and efficiently simulate nonadiabatic dynamics.  You will use machine learning for the underlying quantum chemistry calculations. The work will be done in collaboration with Christoph Dellago (Faculty of Physics) and Ullise Stefanelli (Faculty of Mathematics).

Your future tasks:

The candidate actively participates in research, teaching & administration.

You will actively participate in the following research activities:


	Development of enhanced sampling methods for electronic excited states
	Extension and application of multi-state mapping approaches to surface hopping
	Development of machine learning potentials for rare reactions


Additionally:


	You are expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
	You engage in teaching (independently and/or in a team) within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
	You may occasionally be involved in the organization of meetings, conferences and symposiums.
	You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.


This is part of your personality:


	Completed Master's degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Physics, Computational Science or a related field
	Good knowledge of theoretical chemistry, especially on one or more of the following topics: excited-state quantum chemistry, nonadiabatic dynamics and machine learning
	Hands-on experience with scientific computing and/or programming skills
	Good command of written and spoken German and English

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Times Higher Education (THE) and Education World Forum (EWF) teams as an Event Manager, handling operations and logistics for our global portfolio of events, with a special focus on the annual Education World Forum.

For 20 years, EWF has provided a forum for education and skills ministers from across the globe to share best practice and discuss solutions to common challenges. It comprises of three days of sessions featuring policymakers and experts, with many sessions given by ministers themselves as part of an honest assessment of the state of global education.

In addition to the EWF, this role will also contribute to THE’s global events footprint of 40+ summits and conferences throughout the year. You will work alongside our Event Operations team to ensure the smooth delivery of our events.

You’ll need to be used to a fast-paced environment, be an innovative thinker and have the ability to work with multiple stakeholders. You will have a creative approach to be able to spot opportunities that add value and enhance the experience of delegates. A keen eye for detail and the ability to multi-task are essential in this role.

Key Responsibilities:


	Overseeing the operational plans for the event including liaising with venues on room allocation, set-up and catering
	Working with A/V suppliers on all required production elements
	Coordinating translation services as required
	Working with the venue and our design team on the design and production of on-site branding and signage
	Liaising with high-profile speakers on their participation and any travel/accommodation needs
	Monitor, control and record invoicing and budgets
	On-site event management
